Sarawak forest policy. protection and the sustainability of forest resources.

Sarawak forest policy. In doing this, we are governed by National Parks and Nature Reserves Ordinance 1998 and Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998. . The Sarawak Forest Policy defines five categories of forest land: totally protected area (TPA), forest reserve, protected forest, communal forest and state land forest. We have been entrusted to protect the wildlife of Sarawak, particularly the totally protected and protected species. Harvesting operations in Sarawak have decreased to around 2 million m3 per year, accompanied by stringent requirements for forest manage. This Sarawak Forest Policy has been prepared by a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural working group consisting of persons of disciplines relevant to all forest functions, covering the economic, environmental and social aspects. Forest areas and forest cover must be maintained, managed and developed in line with the State’s commitment on Permanent Forest Estate Areas (PFE) and Totally Protected Areas (TPA). Apr 4, 2025 ยท Strategic objectives of the Policy are as follows (i) assure the sound climate and physical condition of the country and safeguarding soil fertility; (ii) supply the water for domestic and industrial use, irrigation and general agricultural purpose, and the prevention of damage by flooding and erosion to the river and agriculture land; (iii protection and the sustainability of forest resources. The PFE areas are meant for production forests while TPAs are for conservation and protection of forest and wild life.
